One from the “Holy Shit” File: Mike Brown Briefly Makes Sense

People are already saying that the just-now-happened Carson Palmer trade to Oakland was the doing of Hue Jackson and Marvin Lewis, but whatever.  Mike Brown made sense here.  I WONDER WHAT TRICKERY HAD TO BE UNDERTAKEN TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN!

Speaking of trickery, here’s an ESPN oopsie:

Either way, we can consider our long national nightmare over.  Carson Palmer is apparently gone from the Bengals, and we can now consider them the team that SWINDLED a team still reeling from the recent death of its owner.  Of course, the extra first-rounder might be worth it.… Read the rest

This Carson Palmer Business: Awesome or Not?

You’ve read all the junk, you’ve probably got a half-formed opinion now.  All that remains is this: do you think Carson Palmer’s “Take this job and shove it” stance is awesome or not awesome?

Mediocre Bengals Changing Nothing: Awesome?

There are many reasons the Cincinnati Bengals are usually awful.  The owner.  Terrible draft picks.  The NFL’s smallest scouting department.  The coaches.  The owner.  The owner.

But heck, if it’s broke, why fix it?

Marvin Lewis just got himself a contract extension coming off a 4-12 season.  While he’s taken the Bengals to the playoffs twice, he also has a losing record.  Lewis says he wants to stay because he has unfinished business.  After eight years?

Pros:

  • Captivating pre-game show featuring Lewis and Dave Lapham will soldier on.
  • If you can think of anything to put here, please post it in the comments section.

Cons:

  • Gives Terrell Owens a chance to get back on TV and say “I told you so.”
  • Captivating pre-game show featuring Lewis and Dave Lapham will soldier on.

Late-Season Garbage/Spoiler Wins: Awesome or Baseball’s Coming Soon?

Look, none of us saw the Bengals apparently play well yesterday, and the chances are pretty dang good that we didn’t really care, either.  I know that I didn’t.  Generally speaking, anyway.  Nonetheless, the Bengals knocked the Chargers out of the playoffs or whatever and YAWN, WHATEVER. PITCHERS AND CATCHERS REPORT IN LESS THAN 50 DAYS.

Pros:

  • A win is a win
  • Yay, it’s a Cincinnati thing that one some thing yesterday.
  • WHEN WE DON’T WATCH, THEY DOOS GOOD.

Cons:

  • A garbage win only counts as 1/4 of an actual, important win.
  • Mike Brown.
  • Also, Mike Brown.

Terrell Owens: Awesome or Meh?

It’s no secret that the Bengals are a big steamy one right now.  They probably had the talent to do well at the beginning of the year, but blah blah blah and, well, you’ve seen it.  No sense in reliving it here.

Terrell Owens, he of the loud mouth and the one year deal, confirmed something Cincinnati has been saying for years.  Check this for both atrocious grammar and REAL MUHFUGGIN TAWLK:

I think there is underachieving you know from the top down.  You start off with the owner, you start off with the coaches and obviously we as players. We are a product of what the coaches are doing, are coaching us throughout the course of the week. Of course we have to go out there and play the game but in order for us to do what we’re allowed to do at the best of our ability the coaches have to put the players in the best position.

Someone’s about to get fired.

Pros:

  • He can catch a ball.
  • He says what’s on his mind.
  • He’s not wrong about Mike Brown.

Cons:

  • Dude can tear a team apart. Not sure that’s what he’s done here, but yeah.
  • Bengals. Whatever. PITCHERS AND CATCHERS REPORT IN LIKE TEN OR SO WEEKS, DUMMY.

Mike Brown Isn’t Gonna Fire Himself. Awesome or Of Course He Isn’t?

From a recent letter Brown sent to a fan who’d pointed out his well-known flaws: “I’m afraid you are stuck with me in my present role, and a general manager brought in from the outside is not in the plans.”

Not that we expected anything less.

Pros:

  • Someone gets to keep a job, I guess.
  • Yep.

Cons:

  • It’s Mike Brown.
  • He’s keeping football minds out of Cincinnati.
  • Also, Mike Brown.
  • Mike Brown.
